Sowiso 2024: Our year in numbers

At Sowiso, we are committed to continuously enhancing STEM education through our virtual teaching assistant, which helps teachers save time and engage students. In 2024, similar to previous years, there have been numerous rapid advancements and changes in the education field, and we keep striving to support learners and institutions with innovative solutions.

Once again, we want to celebrate our achievements with you and thank all our partners and team members for helping us improve STEM education together.

New features

Our team has worked very hard to keep innovating and upgrading our platform. We are happy to share the new features we launched in 2024.

Teacher UI

We have introduced a new teacher interface to simplify educators’ work, providing a more accessible and faster-to-use environment for teachers. We have received some positive feedback and are still actively developing the new teacher interface. Our developers and designers are currently working on the new test creation page.

Solution Bot: Our new AI chatbot

At Sowiso, we are dedicated to unburdening teachers’ time and providing students with the additional guidance they need to learn at their own pace. To support this mission, we have launched an exciting new AI feature for math.

Our platform now includes an AI math tutor in the forum, known as Solution Bot. This bot is specifically trained to answer math questions related to Sowiso exercises. It is designed to replicate the interaction between students and tutors, offering constructive and detailed feedback that motivates learners while helping them find the correct answers.

Renowned universities such as Radboud University, the University of Groningen, and UNISA have already tested this new feature, and the initial results are very promising!

Immersive reader

We continually improve our accessibility initiatives and are excited to announce that Microsoft’s Immersive Reader is now available on Sowiso. This powerful tool simplifies reading and understanding content for everyone, featuring options such as text-to-speech, translation, and focus modes.

The Immersive Reader helps students engage with content in the way that suits them best. This tool is invaluable for people with visual impairments or learning difficulties.

This feature is always available to the students during practice, but you will have to enable it if you wish to use it in a test for (a group of) students.

Schoolyear integration

Schoolyear is a safe exam workspace that helps you secure your online assessments. It transforms any device into a safe environment for online exams, even when students bring their own devices. Below, you can learn how to set up your Sowiso test and secure it with Schoolyear.

Basic Math Applications (Economics)

We have developed a new extension for our best-selling Basic Math course. Each chapter now includes an additional package of exercises that demonstrate the practical applications of the theory. This extension is ideal for higher education Economics programs. Previously, we launched a Basic Math extension for Science.

What’s next?

New AI projects

We will continue integrating artificial intelligence into our products to empower learners and institutions through technology. Our roadmap includes projects that will help educators create exercises more easily and efficiently in our authoring environment with the assistance of AI.

We will work on an AI foundation that would be the base of a possible Author AI tool, which would be developed with that tool heavily in mind and parallel with it. However, the idea of this foundation is to design it in a way that can facilitate more and different AI tools later on, both at Sowiso and Paragin Group. This foundation should be focused on education and learning tools, not on facilitating any AI tool.

New test UI

Our team is currently working on developing the new testing page on Sowiso. This testing page will include a more intuitive and streamlined approach, keeping the old functionalities but adding a few new ones. For example, it will allow you to create and reuse test templates.

This page is designed with the user in the center, so we included client input from the beginning. A focus group of Sowiso power users had the first look and shared their feedback.

Communities of practice

We are a community of practice focused on fostering collaboration among users involved in authoring. For example, one area of growth within our community is accounting, where we aim to share exercises, best practices, and other valuable knowledge resources.

Participating in this community should streamline the work for everyone involved and increase our overall impact. Next year, we plan to develop this initiative further.

Other updates

We recently updated our logo, and you may be wondering why. Since 2022, Sowiso has been part of the Paragin Group, a leading provider of innovative edtech solutions. Our focus is developing knowledge and skills through online software to promote lifelong learning and professional growth in various sectors, including education, business, and government.

Sowiso new logo

To create a more cohesive brand identity, we decided to align the branding of our products. This change reflects our commitment to presenting our wide range of offerings consistently and recognizably. You can check out this blog post for more information on the reasoning behind this decision.

In addition to the new logo, we have also changed how we spell our name. In the past, there were some questions about whether “Sowiso” should be written with or without a capital letter. We have decided to use the capital “S” only, so it will always be written as “Sowiso”.
